Popped into Chepstow today.

It’s only a stone’s throw from us but too often a drive through to other destinations.A formidable Norman town in its day boasting a castle constructed in 1067 nestled on the cliffs overlooking the River Wye.
Ten years ago the pavements were filled with shoppers and visitors but as you can see very few now….but we still have coffee shop after coffee shop opening up.
The paved streets are so attractive with the arch at the top.
We walked down to the River Wye where the bridge divides Wales from England.Built in 1816.The longest iron arch Road Bridge and the highest tidal range.Today,the water level was very low showing just how muddy it is.The Seal that can be frequently seen only in art form today!
Alongside the River is a bandstand where the local primary school children were practicing their singing…their backpacks tidyly lined up.
Pleasant morning, sun was behaving too…back to our ‘Erigeron’ coffee spot.(Although we did have one in Chepstow)..much cheaper!!! Love the way it has chosen to grow every so often in the gravel.

it is a long time since I have been there. Sad when a previously vibrant town has a downward phase.
Beverley is on the up again with fewer charity shops opening now. Still some closed/empty shops but not as bad as it has been.

I know I visited Chepstow in the late 1950’s but I can’t remember anything about the town, only visiting the castle with its garderobes high above the River Wye! Surely I must have seen that lovely bridge.My mind’s a blank. Thanks for sharing your day out with us.

I'm sure you wouldn't have missed the bridge.FF..it is most distinctive. The town hasn't really changed except for the various retail units...the main street is fairly steep.

That was a nice trip for you, I remember many years ago standing near where that seal is (not there then) and drawing the bridge. I've still got it somewhere.
