Rachel’s Garden in Shaftesbury, Dorset

We have been spending some time in the warmer south western counties. Today we spent the day gardening with our daughter Rachel. She needed a bit of help getting a lot of builders’ rubbish to the dump, and cutting her grass which had become very overgrown while the refurb was taking place.

Rachel’s fiancee gave her a nice picket camera for her recent birthday, so she might do her own blog soon…but in the meantime I thought I would show you how beautiful she has managed to make her garden in the 10 months she has lived here.

Here is her pretty blue, white and pink front garden

And at the side of the house…

We think there was a greenhouse here before they came…

And from the newly turfed back garden…

This Clematis was chosen by Rachel….it is called ‘Cezanne’ and is one of the Boulevard group that only grow to about a metre tall.

We think this Clematis is ‘Nocturne’. It was here when Rachel moved in.

She has done very well in a short space of time, Karen.
I bet she enjoyed having your help with the garden!
Is she planning to put a greenhouse on the spot where one may have been? Or has she plans for something else?

A shed perhaps Kate. And yes, she is thrilled to bits with her nice tidy garden!

Thanks Sue. I’m hoping she will put on some before and after shots soon.

So far so good Karen. All looks nice and tidy with some lovely planting. 12 months time the borders will look fabulous. Admiring and envious of the strawberries. <]:~)

Looks like Rachel has inherited her Mum's talents :-)

All ready for Wimbledon with that strawberry crop. She is doing a great job with her border shaping and plant choices. I do like her bees.

Karen, Rachel's garden is looking great with the new turf and I do like her colour palette in the front garden. Both those Clematis, old and new, are so pretty. Btw, it has been non-stop heavy rain here in Sussex all day ... :o(

It’s great to see young folk getting into gardening, and she has achieved so much in ten months with some lovely planting going on, you can see she has an eye for it and it will only get better, tell her well done you have no doubt inspired her which is great, that’s the joy of gardening, people get inspired by lovely gardens and other gardeners knowledge and she too will inspire other people as her garden unfolds.

Thanks everyone! You are very kind and encouraging. Wait till you see what she's added today! We went shopping this morning before flying home to Scotland later on. And I'm pretty sure Rachel has been planting all day since we left her! :)

I hope Rachel appreciated your help. Though she has achieved a tremendous amount in just 10 months.

Yes SBG..she did. But now its down to her. We’ve made it manageable for her and she’s very happy with it now.

It all looks lovely Karen and I'm sure Rachel appreciates your help and input, I'm like you and have spent many a happy hour in my son and daughters gardens...

Thank you! Yes, proud of both my lovely children. The other one is back in Colorado directing a Ranch Camp. Working hard and doing something useful....yes, proud!

Ranch Camp? Colorado? You mean the 'mile high city'? I love that city in the soaring Rockies. Is there a more beautiful place?

14 Jun, 2019

Bathgate, it is absolutely stunning. Cheley Camp near Denver. About an hour and a half from the City up in the Rockies. It's stunning. Actually, I have a photo, I'll put it on so you can see. I would love to go there, its incredibly beautiful.

Definitely come and enjoy. Would love to see your photos. Colorado was a secret get-a-way of Margaret Thatcher and she was an avid skier and popular guest at Aspen. Queen Elizabeth? She prefers the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs and Tabasco Pepper sauce from Louisiana she has regularly shipped directly to Buckingham Palace. LOL all good fun.
