Scottish Gardens Scheme Open Days Are Over :)

This week we opened the garden for 4 days and welcomed about 60 visitors in total. In June we gave lunch to 25 hungry cyclists and including this special opening event, we have so far raised over £700 for Charity. We were very lucky indeed that my friend Helen, a professional flautist, came to entertain the visitors on two of the Open Days. The Garden is still open by arrangement until September and in August I am expecting a group of florists (about 20 ladies) for a Private Visit. I’m hoping we should top £900 by the end of the summer. But this is our last opening for the foreseeable future. We are putting the cake tins away again and will enjoy our garden privately for a while….phew!

Anyway, I thought it a good opportunity to show you what the visitors have been enjoying this month. :)

Well done on raising so much for the charities. I have enjoyed your journey to get the garden to this point and learned a lot too. We were sorry we cannot make a return visit this year but we look forward to seeing where you take it from here when you pop in to Goy.

Your garden just keeps getting better all the time. Everything is so impeccable. I hope now you have plenty of time to enjoy it. I'm sure a lot of work goes into these tours - even after they all leave, the clean up can take days. lol.

Thank you so much Gerardine. I don't think we will be opening the garden again. Certainly won't be doing it for the foreseeable. But my GoY friends are welcome to visit me ANY time!

Looking at your rose border Karen, do you have anything else growing in with the roses, how many roses are there actually in the border?

24 Jul, 2019

Just looking at your photos again in the daylight, (usually on my tablet in the evening) the one with the hills in the background it to die for, such a change from your last garden! You must love waking up to these views every morning. it's staggeringly beautiful......(◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。(ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Angela..I underplanted the roses with hardy geraniums, polemonium, parahebe, hardy nemesia, erigeron, clematis etc. There are...let me count them...33 Roses in there, a mix of shrubs, standards, patios and one climber on that side of the arch at the end. There are 4 big latifolia peonies, a witch hazel, philadelphus, standard rhododendron, a japonica shrub, teucriums, pulsatillas and primulas. Lilies and a Chinese lace sorbus. A tree peony, scabious...think that’s about it! I just took a video for you, but tbh...a lot of the roses are resting. I’ll take one next month when it all gets going again!

As for the views...yes, thank you. There isn’t a day goes by that I don't appreciate them, back and front. And, if I may say so, I think the garden enhances the views at the front. It is a real privilege to live with such stunning views...makes a big difference to our life! I expect one day we may be forced to leave ...it will be tough. I hope to go out in a beautiful woven casket! ;)

My God Karen, don't be thinking of departing this world yet!! Lol
Your rose bed must be pretty enormous!! how do your plants cope with the rose feed? everything planted near our roses has become huge..ie Monarda, HGs etc or have you spaces?
Looking forward to seeing your video, on Messenger Facebook or WhatsApp?

Angela, I feed everything with seaweed extract. Its great for everything. I don’t add anything to my soil except compost because it's great soil and plenty of nitrogen in there etc. I haven't noticed anything over-growing yet. I can’t add manure because the dogs would make themselves very ill on that. The size....roughly 10m by 2m.

Wow, what an incredible garden, so colourful, & surrounded by beautiful scenery. I know though that gardens don't get like this on their own. You have put in all the work. Enjoy your private time in it( after the the florist ladies' visit).

27 Jul, 2019

Thanks Feverfew :)

27 Jul, 2019

Thanks Karen.......so you don't use a specific rose feed?

28 Jul, 2019

No. I think Seaweed is excellent for them.

It is just lovely, Karen. I am sure it must have been very hard work having it open for so many people, but you must be be delighted by the amount you gave raised. It has been fascinating to watch the garden develop over the years, thanks to your blogs and photos. Now you must enjoy it for yourselves! I hope all the arrangements for Rachel’s wedding progress without too much stress!
