Visiting Stourhead

Scott and I have joined the National Trust, as Stourhead is only 20 min. Drive from Shaftesbury. I didn’t think I would like the big landscaped parkland as it’s really not very much of a Garden as I think of a Garden. But I fell absolutely in love with it. We were in the area for 8 weeks, so managed 4 visits at different times. And it will for ever be remembered as our last day out with son Callum before he emigrated to Calgary, Canada. 😢 But that won’t spoil it. We’ll be back in June!

Only a few photos as most are too big and I haven’t the patience to resize them, sorry! But if you get an opportunity to go..at any time of year, it is very wonderful.

Looks like you had a pleasant visit with your family. You're right, it is a fabulous place to visit.

Nice to see you again Karen. It will be hard seeing Callum leave - thank goodness for the Internet!

Thanks Stera :) Yes, it will be hard even with the Internet, as there is a 7 hour time difference and now he is working so it's weekends only for our window of opportunity. I'm looking forward to chatting with him tomorrow. :)

hello you,
long time no see so to speak. You will certainly miss Callum but what lovely days out to remember. And as you say technology will make keeping in touch so much easier.

It is a lovely open space isn't it. We always visit when we are down in that area.

Hi Karen, lovely to see you back of Goy, with a smashing blog too! With regards to chatting to Callum ... our daughter's partner is a Corporal in the RAF and is currently deployed in Mali. She came over for lunch and Facetimed him ... he loved seeing the lush green growth and the rain. Nothing but sand and dust for him ... :o(

Good to see you again Karen.
We have friends who live close to Stourhead and they love it as you do. We have only been there once but thought it was very beautiful and so peaceful by the lake.

Stour head looks beautiful Karen, and it’s lovely to see you back on GoY.
Now you’ll be joining those of us with distant families … and discovering that Zoom is not ideal! Still, at least we can see and talk to our Downunderlings, so we’re grateful for the technology. It is 3 years now since I had little Frankie on my lap … quite sad that they’re growing up without us 🙁. Maybe we’ll fly out this autumn …

I hope you do get to see your family soon Sheila. I think it is really beginning to take its toll on me now. I have been feeling pretty low. But I try to stay positive and thankful for ‘face-time’!
