Pashley Manor Gardens - another garden visited

By drc726

Today we went to Pashley Manor Gardens off the A21 at Ticehurst. The original moated house was built in 1262. The house today (still in lived by the family, not open to the public) dates back to 1543 and was owned by Ann Boleyn forebears so it is possible she stayed there (Hever castle is not far away)
The gardens (opened 1992) are a dream and the sculptures are modern and placed in various settings and very tactile. They are limited editions and can be bought for £600 to about £2,000 oh I wish!
Several small lakes all linking ( I do love water) and with warnings about an aggressive black and white swan with a great red beak – we saw why when he almost got my husband’s ankle as he followed us around the waterside. I think he gets cross when he is not fed by visitors!
The lilies, roses had such smells and the shady areas just invite sitting and contemplation. Croquet lawn and tennis courts are obviously much used by the family.
The walled vegetable garden is very productive and the raspberries in the cage looked yummy.
Good selection of plants for sale. What I liked about the shop was the very obvious choice to go for unusual things and not the usual candles and soap and lavender.
While there are picnic tables in the meadow carpark this is not a place for children.
Oh do I miss my digital camera! My daughter took it for 4 weeks to the Edinburgh Fringe then she’ll be off to the South of France for a week then to Spain for a week and then I just might get it back.
What a hot day glad I watered last night.
