I stopped by early this morning on my way to Scunthorpe. I pass this pond regularly as I drive down the steep hill in to the village.
All these years and I haven’t actually taken time to stop and take a proper look! I do notice as I drive back through the village – up hill – people often sit by the pond and watch the world go by.
It’s obviously full of colourful flowers and blooming shrubs in the summer months, but, I found some lingering on today…
I really must make the effort next spring and summer!

So pleased you've photos of this pond Kate. I've often been to it, but not since lockdown and to see what they've added is a treat..:))
The local.people put so much effort into caring for it and the surrounding edges, it's lovely! They also plant up the bank as you go up the hill..

Thanks Julia, it is a lovely pond area, the villagers really do keep the area attractive here and beyond, for little children and big children too, to enjoy.

Thank you, Eileen! That’s kind of you. I don’t think I can see a real heron…unless..one sneaked in while I was concentrating!

Thanks Chris, I think you are so right, it’s a much lived and cared for place. I can imagine the villagers meeting up regularly for a catch up!

0h Ange! I think if I had, I may have fainted! They must’ve been hiding in the undergrowth! ☺️
It does feel quite magical..I can’t wait to see it in the warmer months…I’m definitely making an effort.

I thought you’d recognise this pond, Janey! I can’t believe I haven’t taken some pics before! The villagers in Ferriby really do put much effort into the upkeep of the green spaces. I know what you mean..the area on the left as you come down the hill into the village..it always planted up! I took a pic of the ‘viking’ yesterday, but it didn’t come out too well. I may still post it!

What a lovely area, must have brought the village community together.

I think it must have, Sue. I have seen several villagers out on the hillside and around the pond tending to the plants etc throughout the summer, as I drive through.

Thanks for stopping and taking these lovely pictures, Kate.

It must be quite unusual to have a place of that kind cared for by the villagers- more power to their collective elbows! I guess the children will love it! Was there a natral pond there to begin with?

Thanks for sharing these with us Kate! You seem to have the perfect job too, driving through lovely villages and seeing the gardens!

Looks like an ideal place for a bike ride. Appears to be cherished by the village. I'm sure it holds lots of fond memories for many with year round interest. Thanks for sharing a piece of your world with us Kate.

Thank you, Klahanie. I’m always impressed by their continued efforts!

Aw thanks, Sandra. I really do think they work well as a team. I see them out in little groups planting and tending to the areas around the village throughout the year. More so in the warmer months. It’s lovely to see a community come together.

Sue, I’m not sure if there was a pond there beforehand? I will now ask the staff in the village shop on Monday! I often use the postal services/buy a drink for the car on my way past. You’ve got me thinking now!

Thank you, Rose! I am, indeed, very fortunate to have a smashing job that involves such a beautiful view from my car! It’s very therapeutic at times and I never take it for granted…all that lovely countryside and the lovely villages I get to see and enjoy their hard work and pretty gardens..

Thanks Paul, I’m pleased you have enjoyed the blog and pics. I often see cyclists, sometimes a lone cyclist or a group of them making their way through the village to the next one.
I think you’ve nailed it, they do seem to cherish the place where they live.
