Before and after

Every May I usually post a photo of my pergola covered in beautiful blooms of clematis Montana "old man’s beard " with a glorious smell to it well this year nothing ! I think it suffered from the beast from the east or just old age not sure .
At the moment the pergola as my grandson says has a straw hat on it he helps me in the garden so on his next free weekend he is going to strip it for me the birds will miss it as they sit quite happily among the twigs .

Think maybe I will plant a quick growing rambling rose over it this time any suggestions welcome .

So sad when an old favourite doesn’t appear. 😢 However you can now enjoy choosing a new plant like you said a rambling rose, maybe a wisteria or another montana quick growing clematis. If I remember correctly Gardeners’ world did a piece on clematis this week. There were some real beauties!

Such a shame isn't it? The same happened to mine a couple of years ago. I now have a climbing rose there instead.

How awful Kidsgran. It looked amazing before. A Rose would be better in high winds and snow.

Thanks for looking, yes waddy think it maybe a rose which one do you have ? Amsterdam I watched gardeners world on catch up after I posted the first clemitis they showed was the grandiflora that I had I knew they didn't like pruning but it seems it would have benefited from a hard cut back it had been planted about 14 years ago so had earned its keep ...

Oh what a shame, it was a glorious sight K'gran, never mind you'll enjoy looking for a replacement. I would always recommend Iceberg and its white, I have a beautiful red one here, I wish I knew its name as its a very rapid grower, I'll do more investigating to see if I can find out...Okay I have just had another look, with more success, I think it is called" Crazy in Love " its on offer through Groupon today at only £9.99 however other places £29.99... Absolute beauty ...
