Just curious

If you could, which part of UK (or city) would you want to live…for any reason other than family ties? Or….are you happy where you are and would not be interested in any other place.

Interesting question Klahanie. I am very happy in our smallish town with its tree-lined streets, with many sociable clubs, outdoor cafes and close to semi-rural places to walk. Our house is in a peaceful spot too.
But I always loved staying with Steve in Falmouth and spending days on wild rocky beaches enjoying the sight and sound of the sea. He had picked a brilliant place to live ๐.

I would never move, its nice to visit other places but I love my hometown, its one of the most historic in England, full of beautiful ancient buildings and I'm proud of it...

I'd like to go back to a sandy shore area like where I grew up [Seaburn in Sunderland] though I do love my little village on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds.

I've lived in a few places and can't say I've ever been attached to one place or one house, certainly not where we are at the moment, although I like Wiltshire as a county. Generally, the country feels too small because of congestion in it so I would be happy to escape back to the more rural parts of East Anglia, where my roots are!

Quite happy where I am but if I had to move I think somewhere in South Devon area for climate, seascape & gentle valleys

An interesting question that we may have to think seriously about in the coming year or two! It seems probable now that this block of flats will be pulled down in a not too distant future! There have been rumours flying around for many years but they have never come to anything!
But lately surveyors have been up & down our street marking all the underground cables & pipes, etc. You'd never suspect there were so many!
When we moved into this flat, 21 years ago, we thought that after a few years we might want to move to the university town of Cambridge, only 20+ miles away. But with things having changed in the last 20 years that looks increasingly out of the question. We will probably stay here but likely move to a traditional house, 2 up & 2 down! ๐

I'm happy where I am near the SW Wales coast. I would not like to live in a city. I grew up on the Yorkshire Lancashire border and loved that too. Anywhere really where this easy access to good countryside but does not get overcrowded with summer visitors. Being within easy reach of the sea is excellent too, now I've got used to it!

Thank you very much for your comments I love to read them and by googling all the places I also learn more about your country.
SBG , I did not know that your avatar name is after your "hometown".

I was born in Yorkshire, but moved to the coast in Cumbria, when I was a child..it was known as Cumberland then, and I spent the next 30 years there,in a wonderful area, with Mountains, lakes plus the sea nearby, and the freedom to play in the fields and woods all around us,so a very happy childhood..
We moved back to Yorkshire and my roots, after my Father died, and I love it here, just as much,as we live in a lovely area called the Colne Valley, which used to be a traditional Textile area, with the mills of the Industrial Revolution ,being the main working environment for most people. All the smoke, and thick fog,(smog),where you couldn't see a hand in front of you, churning out from the Mill Chimneys, was the norm,...All gone now, with the arrival of synthetics, so a much cleaner, healthier place to live , and we still have Countryside all around, plus easy access to the Yorkshire Dales etc.. Met my Husband who lived in the next village from where I was born, so I guess I'm here to stay ! lol..

I think we would go and live on the Dorset coast we love Weymouth and the surrounding coast and views are amazing, went back this year for a holiday to Bowleaze Cove the view from there is lovely across Weymouth Bay, had lovely weather too which made all the difference, no idea what gardening would be like though of course x

Bloomer, I looked at some pictures (on internet) of Cumbria and was impressed by its beauty .
Beside the National park it looks like the Colne Valley has very nice regional park with many sights and activities to enjoy. ...Loved reading your story with a happy ending. :-)

Daylily, I've noticed that people like to go to Dorset coast for holidays so must have good things going for it (besides fossils). Happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay there and the good weather you had.

I am happy living here in Surrey, surrounded by nice countryside. I would like to be close to the sea as well though, but Iโm not thinking of moving.I content myself with going to view it occasionally, like yesterday when I went to Worthing. Didnโt go into the town at all, just walked along the sea front & along the pier, watching the waves slosh in, getting a good blow.๐ The towns along the SE of England are not very nice really, itโs all too built up, so the SW is a better option.

We are very contented living in Devon and appreciate all it has to offer. However, being a northern lass, I do love the Lake District, Lancashire and Yorkshire but will probably stay put just where we are! The coast is so beautiful as is Dartmoor and Exmoor.

Feverfew, being by the sea is attractive as there are so many things to watch for. I always call our ocean view(back side of the house) 'dynamic" and the front "static". It is good that its not too far for you to occasionally visit. If I understand correctly you have little warmer climate for growing more exotic plants? The beach in Worthing looks nice in photos.

I think Devon must be a prime destination for people to live Wildrose. I only judge from the photos and some comments from travelers on internet. You have some awesome national parks and the coastal area is very picturesque.

That's an interesting question Klahanie...I feel we are positioned quite well on the Welsh/Gloucestershire border with access to both the motorway and beautiful countryside. The Welsh coastline isn't far either. The climate is also temperate, well is was until a couple of years ago when it changed to extremes .
There are many ancient, historical features in and around Chepstow having previously been a Norman town.
Not wishing to upset anyone, I wouldn't want to live near London or in the South East part of the UK.The congestion scares me.
