Early November

Few pictures around here in early November. 2023;

The fountain is still running. OH is usually putting it “to sleep” at this time of the year. The picture is taken from distance behind the “dummy” wall.

We have big number of Bigleaf maples which are shining thought he conifers at this time of the year. Rest of the year they are sort of invisible .Most of the conifers are a native Douglas Fir and Red western cedar which really suffered this summer as the weather was worm and we did not have any rain.
Right now we have plenty of rain (colours do look nicer in sun)

Osakazuki next to the OH shop is a show every fall (autumn)
the word Osakazuki means “leaf like a wine cup” in Japanese

The red leaf Japanese maple in front (in this picture) is JM Emperor 1, living in the pot and getting very tall

Few inherited forsythias around the property are cheerful in spring and on autumn’s moody days

Native vine maple Acer circinatum

Cotinus (Smoke bush) has a interesting colour which is very visible even from a distance. Apparently relative to Sumac (Rhus)

Japanese Forest Grass ( Hakonechloa macra) is fading gracefully

Yucca I planted last year seems to be doing well

Under the Bigleaf maple.
Its a big job for OH to collect all the fallen leaves from this huge tree. This is just at the very beginning

Roosevelt Rhododendron looks nice all year round

Cercidiphyllum japonicum “Red fox”

This Katsura has deep purple heart-shaped leaves when emerging and then shades to red and then blue-green, and finally they turn to golden orange in fall. It is a very upright tree

We have very few flowers left
Last cosmos

I plant some every year. Like them in hanging pots

Few asters

Nerines ……Inherited

Rudbeckia (commonly called Black-eyed Susan)

Few pictures of our frequent visitors
Raccoon we call Oscar

Owl we call Barney, having a rest in the birdbath here

We do not have names for these as there are so many of them keeping an eye on us

I love October for all the trees changing colours. It is so magical but this is also the time to think about spring and start to plant few bulbs and pansies ……in between rains

what a beautiful blog Klahanie. Such gorgeous photos and colours, I also love your wildlife, though I suspect all though pretty to look at the deer can be a problem.

That fountain is very pretty and sits well in the landscape. Does it just get disconnected or do you dismantle it and take it in under cover?

I love Oscar and Barney, and although probably a pest, the deer is so cute :o)
We only see an occasional Grey Squirrel, but have lots of different birds,so at least we are entertained every day, when they come to the feeders. :o)

I can’t think how I came to miss your lovely blog. I love the colours of all the trees & the pics of your wild life. I love the owl & Oscar. Is latter any trouble in your garden? Is it raccoons that sometimes chew through wires etc in lofts? I expect the deer do their fair share of munching too. Ty for sharing your lovely place with us.
