The rose garden and other delights....

Last September as you know I got rid of one of the g’houses and created a new rose garden, it was hard work but I enjoyed doing it and I was left with this to play with..

I raided various areas for plants to grow around the edges for scrambling over the old concrete base, added lavender, bulbs and various other plants to grow with the roses, however I had too much campanula so pulled it out and planted pansies instead…

Its now looking good to me….

I did lose one rose but my daughter bought me Elizabeth Harkness, replacement as a birthday gift, hubby also treated me to a standard Nostalgia, I’m waiting patiently to see those two in bloom, pleased to say they are all doing well, no blooms at the moment as I deadheaded yesterday but new buds appearing, so will take another photo soon., elsewhere in the garden the roses are having a fabulous year, I didn’t like our wet winter but the garden loved it…..

The next one is very special “The Pilgrim” I planted it as a memoriam two years ago when I lost my sister.

Lilies strutting their stuff..

Borders colourful and more opening every day..

I’m really pleased with my extended border which now runs the full length of the footpath, soon it will be a mass of flowers, I planted Rudbekia, Phlox, Crocosmia and Poppies amongst the shrubs.

For the first time in all the years we’ve had our pond, we had Willow Herb growing amongst the Iris’s, as you can see in the next photo it grew huge, yesterday I spent hours getting rid of it, no mean feat lugging that massive clump of plants out of the pond…

As you know I’m nothing if not determined, armed with my trusty tool, (which just happens to be an old carving knife) plus many impolite but well chosen words I eventually managed to cut through the Iris ’s, also rescued another little plant that had been swamped. That is much better, it was a tough job but all sorted once again, now I need a new net but that’s a job for another day….

It's fun to design new areas and yours looks to have worked well. Your roses are very healthy and I am envious of your pond.

I would say your hard work has proved to have been worth it. As SBG says you'll find in years to come you'll reap the benefits and it will look great.

Lovely blog, Sue! Thanks for sharing your updates. The bed which used to have your greenhouse on is looking great! That was a very innovative idea. Your roses are looking fantastic, plus the addition of lavender and other flowering plants are lobe to see - all flourishing so well too!
Have to agree, your borders are looking very colourful and thriving. Love your pond too - also loving the perimeter planting around it, Sue!
Everything’s looking fab!

Delightful new rose garden Lincs . It has turned out beautifully. You also have many lovely areas in your garden...... and it all looks "spick and span"

Hard work as you say Lincs but it has certainly paid off, an inspirational idea replacing the greenhouse with a rose garden I love it.

Top marks for all the work on the pond. Its a hard messy job but now its done so time to sit back with a cuppa! (Or a glass...) Unless you would like to pop down here and do mine...

Your rose garden conversion looks great - bet you are pleased with it! Roses are brilliant this year aren't they? Love the memorial rose for your sister. As everyone else has said, the garden looks lovely.

Thankyou all for your nice comments, I am pleased with the results, the weather has stopped all play in the garden until evening, its too hot to even sit out in my shady spot and has been for a few days now, I've been forced indoors so catching up inside, lol...
I'm getting all excited as my nieces husband has said he'll come and cut down those dying conifers for us, he says he will also take the wood away for us, so it will only be the fronds that I'll have to get rid of, I'm not worried about those, I'll get rid in my garden waste gradually, even if it takes months, I have spare bins to hide the pieces away., as you know I've wanted those gone for a couple of years now, looking forward to sorting that area out, I have it all pictured in my mind....

I was looking at the old foundation Sue and thought it's not far off from a patio or pergola. Just wanted to share that with you. How are you Lincslass? It's nice to see you online. The pond is looking fab.

Hiya Paul, sorry for not answering before, I've been busy again and we've been away a couple of weekends.
I'm fine thankyou, hope its the same with you, still happy in my garden, I don't post as often as I used to, only when something is happening, otherwise it would be all repeats and I would bore everyone, lol....

Oh lovely pics, you have worked hard, The Pilgrim is doing well 😊, how time flies. I've a few morial roses, but the that bears their name has never grown since I moved home....

I'm good Sue thank you (and I've stayed out of trouble, lol. Remember?!) The summer has been brutally hot with temps around 100°F most of the summer. The beaches have been closed due to shark sightings so no relief there.

Autumn flowers are the most striking and the turning foliage as well. Let's take a moment to enjoy the show - then bake an apple pie!
