............and yet another project !

It was one of those spur of the moment ideas……a 20foot,35 year old conifer was encroaching towards the pathway which leads infront of the lounge window. Its girth was expanding at quite a rate and very soon,I’m sure it would be joining us over Xmas this year if we had not had it felled!
Ray,our usual tree man was hailed!

Such a difference without it,so much more light and more garden to design!!
The stump was made up of many trunks…..Ray managed to cut it down very low and to smoothe the top.
After much pondering we decided to cover it with a raised bed which my OH constructed. It was then stained and planted with Alpines.I continued the bark around it.The edge of the bed was covered with the slate and a new brick edging made.
Of course, the Welsh flag post was repositioned.I was hoping it would be placed elsewhere in the garden!

Another brave but very worthwhile decision!! To discover extra space for new plans and ideas is exciting and you will really appreciate the light that you have got back.

We have a tulip tree which must come down this Autumn. We too suddenly noticed the girth of the trunk and thought ' Help' that has got to go. It was our fault, we planted it in the wrong place!!

It makes a big difference when big over grown trees are removed,it gives you a lot more space to play with.
Your garden looks lovely too.

Thank you Chris and Marj....
This conifer was planted by the previous owners when they were very popular. It has made a considerable difference....glad we did it....let's hope there is a resting period other than daily gardening!

I do love conifers they give so much structure to the garden - but they can be in the wrong place too! Well done for making the decision, it looks as if it was the right one.

It has made a huge difference, you certainly did make the right decision, your garden looks lovely.
We have two that are going near our bottom pond, that of course is when hubby gets around to it, like yours ours are multi trunks and half look dead anyway Marjorie, I love new projects, when mine go I'm going to make my stumpery bigger by incorporating the bits we cannot get out, keep your fingers xx for me, lol....

Thank you HS and Lincs....hope yours are successfully felled..there is one other conifer which is looking sorry for itself, but will have to wait until the Autumn.

Well done! What a difference! Love your alpine planter too. I moved two conifers today. You have to get them positioned right don’t you!

Don't you just love,'spur of the moment 'ideas ,Julia ..but our husbands usually dread the words..'I've just been thinking' ! Lol..
I definitely think it was a good decision, and it looks so much nicer, with your design ,and extra light..I'm not a fan of Conifers anyway, but in the right place ,they look good..Well done for biting the bullet :o)
