The Garden Community for Garden Lovers

General garden photos.

The following photos are general views showing shrubs with a variety of colours just before the leaf fall.Very few flowers though.
Ordered some of Sarah Raven’s Autumn bulbs which will be here in September. A very reliable nursery and professionally packed.

I have included a few photos of the new tiered area (to the left of the steps). It was going to be a rockery, but couldn’t turn down these lovely pink Forest of Dean stones ( wrong shape for rockery)which a friend kindly gave us.There are 3 tiers.
This was the result of our water leak which was found under the steps. The whole area had to be changed and 2 tons of soil brought in to build up the earth which we both wheelbarrowed for 2 hours.!
My OH kept saying (’Never again)!

A few of the shrubs introduced are new but some I was able to use from existing plants. They are a little small but give it 6 months into the Spring new growth will hopefully begin.
The large potted Acer was moved from the back of the house + the urn.
The Festuca glauca was originally potted and looking quite sad so decided to plant it in the area.
The new shrub Strawberries and Cream Honeysuckle has pride of place just as you climb the steps.Should have a lovely fragrance.
I’ve included a couple of hardy Hebes a favourite of mine.

It has taken a few weeks of hard work for us both but I hope well worth it.Time will tell.Sometimes out of a ’crisis ’ new pastures arise!

Hard work as you say but so worth it when you see the end result ... a beautiful garden that will look good even thru the cold miserable months. Tell hubby that I have a labourer like him and they are worth their weight in gold.

Just found this Julia and its amazing! We were on holiday the week you did this blog. Am I right in thinking it was you that mentioned the Clematis Tangutica Bill Mackenzie as it prompted me to send for one which came over a week ago, which also prompted me to buy the arch! I do know how vigorous it is, but it was suggested to me to twirl it round the arch as it grows. I had this years ago and forgot how lovely it was. I had no fence to put it on apart from one facing north and with no border, so this is what I have done! So hopefully it will be ok!
