Removal of Cypress tree.

It was time to remove one of our Cypress trees in the front garden, just at the edge of the entrance. It had been planted far to near another tree and was covered in ivy, so was being suffocated on one side displaying a lot of brown foliage.
Ray,our usual tree man was able to help us,thankfully. I decided to have it cut down by 3/4 of its height. It would then be at a level with the variegated shrub to its left.Cutting it down to this height wont leave a gap and also there wouldn’t be the need to remove the roots
The last photo shows the finished job….just need the remaining tree to fill out a little on the left side where there has been a little dieback.

It looks much better now, sometimes we need to take drastic action.

I think it has enhanced this part of your garden, Julia. It does seem difficult making these choices at times, but, I really think it opens up the area and you can see more of what you have planted there and beyond.

Sometimes you have to take the bull by the horns as they say, and just do it, It was a little congested but now looks balanced, the side that had been starved of light probably won’t respond to new growth but if you slightly bend some of the lower ones round and wire them then given patience and time it will green over the dead sections .

You've been reading my mind,Julien...that's the method I used on another tree...didn't take long to grow over.I feel the tree will probably widen a little more as well.
Thank you,Kate...sometimes you live with a situation for a long time and are suddenly hit with an idea. This happens far too often here.!!
