Thanks Julia, I do love his ‘tour of Gardens’ programmes

Me too,Kate..
It seems ages since Gardener's world proper was on.

I hope that he will put it on Youtube. I watched his travel around international gardens and enjoyed it very much. I am not always in agreement with his thoughts but his presentation and conversations with locals appealed to me.
Lots of interest in it.

Should be,K....We find You tube very useful.

Thanks for the info Julia!

Thanks Julia, that’ll be a must for me. He makes his programmes so interesting, his commentary flows effortlessly and he is relaxing and such good company 🙂.

You've summed him up so aptly,Sheila...hope you enjoy viewing the programmes.

Thanks for the memo. I shall put a reminder for it on my tv.

I don't know about anyone else,I still haven't completely finished viewing the special Gardner's world progs over Christmas.

I did enjoy it Julia. I was lucky to be in Venice three years ago and saw no gardens of note, so to see them hidden behind the palazzo's walls was just amazing!
While we were there, we listened to a concert of Vivaldi's work in his church, that was incredible..:))

Same here,Janey, we visited many years ago and really only did the visitors trail not seeing any of tgese beautiful gardens. That concert must have been amazing. We did the same in Vienna, a Strauss concert, in a very midest church. Those memories stick, don't they.

I loved the programme, and wondered what time of year it was filmed. When I visited, it was with two flat-mates at Easter in 1965 and there were hardly any tourists. We bought tiny leather handbags, and drinking glasses from a glass-blowing workshop. Well before I was into gardens!

We watched it last night and reminisced about our honeymoon in Lido de Jesolo, with a day trip to Venice one day, many years ago!

That seems to be a positive all round. How lovely that one programme nudged members special memories.

I had it on record, Julia. I do like Monty and like everyone else, brought back trips to Venice from many years ago.
Nice to see different aspects of the area though.
I do find Gardener’s World not keeping my interest as it did before, sadly. I’m just not on the same wavelength now.

I know what you mean, Kate...I find myself being drawn to Adam and his garden.

9 Jan, 2022

Oh yes, he has a beautiful garden, Julia. He moved to that house only a few years back, I recall. My kind of gardening!

I was able to stream it from YouTube, He presented Venice nicely . We toured Italy and visited Venice in mid 90ties. I like all the history around the place. The segment about the Fortuny textiles was interesting. Their garden....not so much.

I missed the colours and smells in all the gardens he showed. Lots of white hydrangeas everywhere. Although. the greenery in many was attractive. Lots of shapes and textures.
But.....I noticed that balconies were full of coulourful plants.
I think that Monty is obsessed with so called "sustainable" gardens and what he calls "modern" gardens. Lots of grasses and edibles. But he is a good presenter.

Hopefully he will seek more colour in the next segment. Modern gardens are not my "thing" and Venice would not be my choice of place to live. I like wide open countryside.

As always, this is just my personal take on it and many will not have the same opinion.

Sheila, Murano glass is very famous, collectable and expensive (here) Do you still have these glasses?
I brought home an eye mask and a beautiful folding hand fan. I have a small collection off these (from Spain and Mexico mainly)

Sorry for this long, opinionated post.

Klahanie, I have just one glass left. It is a smoky grey/brown colour and shaped like a small whisky glass … I’m ridiculously fond of it!

Klahanie, I found the gardens far to formal for my taste, but each country has its own styles. I liked the 2nd garden best with all the different shades of green & the beautiful
Hydrangeas. The last programme in Croatia was interesting, but again not very flowery as they regard land as a place to produce food not a place to wander in just
enjoying the beauty of plants. Have you been able to see The Green Planet?

Feverfew, I have a tremendous respect and admiration for Sir David Attenborough but right now that program is only available in UK. I will have to use VPN to watch it on my PC and hope that eventually will be available for worldwide audience. I understand that they used some cutting edge technology to film these episodes.

A pity. I hope you get to see it eventually.
