Been Away A While

By meanie

As some of you may have noticed I haven’t been around for a while. There is a simple explanation for this – it has been all change here! As a result of Brexit my other half spent a large part of 2018 in Frankfurt setting up her employers new Frankfurt office and was told that as of New Year 2019 she would be out there full time. As we had a buyer in place for ours we decided to sell and buy a couple of one bed appartments, one here and one in Frankfurt.
Of course the downside is that I no longer have a garden so what I can fit in at my parents has gone there, a bit of overflow to work and the rest has gone.

So that’s why I’ve been absent for a while but I’m back now. The travelling can be a bore, red eye flights at the weekends plus my monthly trip to Sicily, but I have decided to retire in eighteen months anyway. We now have our residencia for The Canaries and a plot of land on La Gomera so we can deal with the travelling for a while.

Hi Meanie, Sorry to hear about all your travelling but, La Gomera.......the gardener's paradise. Lucky you.
I look forward to seeing your photos of the island. I have always wanted to go there. I think Karen went there a few years ago.

Once you settle in the Canaries, there is an excellent seed website in Tenerife ( I think they also have some sort of a nursery. I live in a small village, but there are people from all over the EU living here. The latest is a couple from the UK.

Good luck with your retirement when it come around, you'll be able to grow all those wonderful plants like Wylie. We'll miss you in the meanwhile.

Good luck with your move to La Gomera. I think there's a house there where Christopher Columbus lived or stayed before going to Tenerife and on to find the new world.
Look out for the whistlers. They "speak" from one to the other across large distances by whistling, or at least they used to. When I lived in Tenerife in the 80's I would watch the "Ferry Gomera" or Benchijigua, come and go every evening from my balcony. Memories.

La Gomera is a super place to end up - not least because you can easily buy "palm honey" which i have never seen for sale here! And you can grow bananas!!

I wish you and your partner well in your new homes, shame about the garden but with all that travelling you won't really have the time at the moment, I'm sure you'll find somewhere in the future Meanie...
