The Garden Community for Garden Lovers

A five year warm up!

Some five years ago, I stumbled upon a place that was just sitting there ready for its destined development into a garden of sorts. I had always been very interested in gardening and had at various times in my life, used jobbing as a part-time gardener to get by in those odd times when something more permanent wasn’t readily available. However, the last five years during which I have been pretty much a full time gardener, I have learnt so much and yet more importantly have come to see that what little I have learnt is truly so very little to what is still out there to be learnt about the subject.

What we know is minute in relation to what we don't know, and that goes for all subjects.
It makes gardening more interesting when there's something new to learn all the time.
Good luck with your garden in 2018, and Happy new year to you :)

Welcome to GOY, never be put off by thinking you know very little about gardening. None of us ever stop learning and if you come across someone who tells you they know 'everything' about it - don't believe them!
Just get out there, get your hands dirty, try your hardest and work with what you've got, don't try to change it too much or you will fail.
You can't grow tropical plants when a gale howls across your garden. Now watch someone else disagree with that statement!!
Have fun and let us know how you get on.

Will you be able to show us photos of your plot now and later as you develop it? It is so interesting to see how members gardens have matured and developed over the years.

Welcome to Goy, I 've spent 6o +yrs gardening and still class my myself as learning, it never ends, the seasons have changed so much over my lifetime I now grow things that I never attempted in my younger days, thinking they wouldn't survive the winter or work in my soil, realising over time I have changed the structure of the soil by adding my compost, we learn as we go along, I've always said you also have to enjoy it...Best Wishes for 2018 and Happy Gardening....
