Thanks! My Hilo Beauty Plumeria is just starting to bloom, even though it has had its buds for 3 month. It needs a lot of heat to bloom.

10 Jul, 2012

Wow it took that long but still haven't bloom yet? Is that the one that it spike silver color like?
I just can't wait to see you post more Plumeria tree in your neighborhood. Thank you for sharing those beauty Plumeria trees in your neighborhood.

Here's a photo of the buds on my Plumeria 'Hilo Beauty.

Actually, this plumeria had the buds on the plant for more than 4 months.

10 Jul, 2012

Thank you. Wow more than 4 months but haven't bloom, so how long more does it take to bloom after you took that picture?

17 Jul, 2012

It just started blooming a couple of weeks ago. The flower spike and buds will stay on a plumeria for a long time. Many times previous year's flower spikes will stay on the plant until the following spring and bloom again.

I wonder how spike could survive through out winter & rainy day w/o protection? It a miracle.
While the one that are grow in the pot they can't be survive that good even with protections & cares.

19 Jul, 2012

The flower spikes are pretty tough...they won't tolerate frost, though.

Yes, I love Plumeria 'Hilo Beauty'! I've had this variety for many years. Last year was the first time it didn't bloom in the 15 years I've had it. Most likely from the severe drought.

28 May, 2017

Yes most like the drought lets hope you dont get msny more droughts its a good age then.

28 May, 2017

San Diego is almost always in drought. It's a way of life here, unfortunately.

28 May, 2017

Thats a shame I suppose San Diego native plants are survivers being use to the drought.

29 May, 2017

Yes, most California native plants go dormant in summer and grow and flower during winter and early spring.

However, with this being said: most plants grown here are not natives.

29 May, 2017

Yes I gathered a lot of plants grown there were nit natives it would be interesting to grow plants which are use to the same weather conditions as San Diego but not native to San Diego.

We grow many plants native to the dryer tropics and subtropics. Many plants or native to Mediterranean, dryer parts of Australia, South America, Mexico even Southeast Asia and India grow well here. The biggest influx of plants over the last 20 - 25 years have been from Madagascar, though. They're extremely popular plants. Ravenea rivularis (Majesty Palm) and Bismarckia nobiles (Bismarck Palm) are very popular palms here.

I found my Plumeria page.

30 May, 2017

Thats interesting about bringing in Palms from Madagascar You have got lots of lovely photos of Palm which you showed me when I was Sixpence ?

Thank you I shall take a peek.

30 May, 2017

Oh wow! You were under the screen name Sixpence. I remember you. It was several years ago. :>))
