Licuala spinosa - Mangrove Palm, Spiny Licuala - San Diego, CA.

Licuala spinosa - Mangrove Palm, Spiny Licuala - San Diego, CA. (Licuala spinosa - Mangrove Palm, Spiny Licuala)

1 of 3 clumps of Mangrove palm growing in front of an Industrial Building in San Diego, CA. This is not a very commonly used palm in this setting. It is usually grown in private gardens because of its high requirements for water, shade and protection from winds.
Photo taken Sept. 2006.

I wonder what made them choose it then ?
It's good to see places using 'different' choices, shows a bit of imagination :-))

Milky, thanks! : - )

Louise1:

Not sure why they chose this palm, however, they have an extensive rare palm garden at this location.

Also, all Licuala species are native to the deep tropics in shaded rain forest.

Mushybanna:

Licuala palm species have the most beautiful fronds in the world!
My opinion and many palm enthusiasts agree also. : - )
