The Opium Poppy Seedling

The Opium Poppy Seedling (Papaver somniferum)

Just popped up within the last week or so. Originally must have blown into my garden, but over the last two years has come up in the same area. Just counted 20 seedlings coming up. Does anyone know how to move them successfully without them dying as I havent had any luck they just die on me. Trouble is where they are is not where I really would like them to be.

You better start saving the seeds when their come, i tryed moving them when their are small some make it some not, if moving them any bigger than 1-2cm their will not be successful.....chezs

I moved some by keeping as much soil around the roots as possible and keeping them well watered until established.

Poppies resent being transplanted like no other plant. If you get one to survive being moved it will be stunted but most die. Best to save seeds and plant them where you want them to grow. Sincerely

Best chance is to move them when very tiny, then they seem to be moveable.
