this is an orchid oncidium. The beautiful flower stem shrivelled and died within days and the turtle like stems at the base are also shrivelling. What did I do wrong?

The same thing happened to mine Bethany. I have had no luck with this one either.

Was it purchased in bloom? From a supermarket?
It's pretty normal to lose buds as the plant becomes acclimatised to the change in conditions, but the whole stem......
Did you bring it home and put it on a windowsill in a warm room? When I buy, I put them away from the window in a cooler room and gradually acclimatise them to the warmer conditions and more light.
Also, it's possible that the damage was done at the point of sale, as they tend to be near to the door and subject to a lot of cold draughts. Were any of the buds shrivelled when you got it?
My problem with Oncidiums is getting the damned things to rebloom!
