Can't go wrong with lavender (says she, who keeps killing it off somehow lol)

Nice - love it - sorry for being ignorant but is it evergreen or die off ?

17 Nov, 2011

I love lavender & planted 3 of the dwarf variety of Hidcote in our very first small garden at the back. It's doing really well & beginning to spread out now with flowers on it. I also planted another variety of the 'winged' type in my side garden. I am hoping to put dwarf lavender in either side of my front path, with erigeron growing through it.

Sorry Paul, were you asking me if it's evergreen? I wouldn't know - it never lasts with me!!!! lol

Yes Poppylover, I did see those in Noah's garden. Loved them. Paul, there was a big curry plant growing just outside of my kitchen door in a house we bought when I first returned to NZ late 1998. Everytime I stepped out into the sunshine for a quiet cup of tea, I was hit by the smell of curry. I hated that plant & if we hadn't sold that house within 2 years of moving in, it would definitely have been history lol.

23 Nov, 2011

heehee - I love curry fortunately :D

23 Nov, 2011

Me too ..... but not in my garden lol.

23 Nov, 2011

You must have had a really smelly one Dwyllis. I dont think Ive ever smelled a curry plant unless I rubbed it. It would probably make a nice topiary - !

23 Nov, 2011

Maybe our summer heat intensifies the curry smell, Poppylover? Just a thought. I know I didn't have to rub it to appreciate the curry odour. Even after all these years I can still remember how much I hated that plant lol. Interesting fact that it is only ornamental ... I thought it might be the same as the dried Curry leaves sold in bags in healthcare shops.

thanks Poppylover. Our beautiful native Tui .... & it has a very distinctive song too ... like a heavy booming noise, so I always know when its somewhere close by.

Hi again Bik. Had a look at the label - no information whatever!! Looked it up in RHS book - There are a few different varieties of Lavender angustifolia (mine is just labelled angustifolia) Most of them are around 3ft. Hidcote is the exception and is slightly shorter at 2ft. I would like to eventually clip mine into topiaries. Hope this helps.
