Pot bound Cymbidiums (Cymbidium)

My Cymbidiums were in dire need of a repot - this is what I found after I had cut the pots off!

A cup of coffee hiding in there too?!

Definitely a case of re-potting I think.....lol

Proper coffee too Sticki - I go mad for it on Sundays!

They were about an inch out of the pot DD!!

11 Mar, 2012

Will you put them in a bigger pot or divide them?

11 Mar, 2012

Very healthy roots though...Crossword not done I notice.

Poor things - they must be so relieved to be out of the pots!!

The photo has disappeared! Has pimpernel taken it to finish the crossword?

11 Mar, 2012

Bigger pots Sticki - I want huge plants!

They were very healthy P/nel, nothing to cut off really. Did the crossy in my head!!!!

More to the point Sheilar, they may stop falling over all the time!

Still here for me Sticki - the site seemed to slow down a bit a few minutes ago though................

looking good Meanie, nice and healthy too, i always waited till they were really in need of it....shows they are ready.

11 Mar, 2012

Nope, I haven't got it!

Tsk..Ma does Crosword in her head..Even the Cryptics. I need at least four envelopes or both sides of an A4.

11 Mar, 2012

Picture is back!

I can't do crosswords.

Lol Meanie!

This is how my Agapanthus were yesterday when i also cut the pots..will do them the world of good...:>)

11 Mar, 2012

Surreylad - they really needed it! Wouldn't even stand upright.

Pimpernel - I must admit that I was kidding!

Motinot - You should have some stunners this year then!

11 Mar, 2012

gracious!!!

11 Mar, 2012

Plenty of new pseudobulbs too Paul, so it had to be done.

11 Mar, 2012

indeed!! Strong roots

11 Mar, 2012

They were - practically nothing to trim.

11 Mar, 2012

It was how the bamboo we have was - I had to saw it to divide it - thankfully still survived :)))))))))

12 Mar, 2012

Bamboo NEEDS to be in a pot! And it's almost impossible to kill!

Meanie:

Cymbidiums love to be crowded! They even bloom best when crowded. If the pot is too big they can rot.

14 Mar, 2012

They had to be potted on though as they wouldn't stand up - the slightest breeze skittled them.

14 Mar, 2012

You need rocks at the bottom of the pots. This is what I do with all my pots.

15 Mar, 2012

I'm hoping that they should be stable now that they're in terracotta pots!

15 Mar, 2012

Are they outside in the wind? Because terracotta pots are not heavy enough. I've had many terracotta pots broken or cracked because of wind in the past. :>(

15 Mar, 2012

Should be stable enough in their spot compared to plastic pots I reckon.

15 Mar, 2012

Good luck! :>)

Hi there Meanie,

Very strong plants you have there.
A question, did you sparate the bulbs? If you did, any suggestion how to do it avoiding to broke the roots.
And the last... is there a big problem if you broke the roots, to save the bulbs?

18 Mar, 2012

I left them all intact Aleyna. It's always good to be careful with the roots of any orchid to avoid infection.

18 Mar, 2012

if you do break a root dust it off with flower of sulphur to help keep it clean, that's what i use...
