Hydrangea seemanii - 2012

By Andrewr

Hydrangea seemanii - 2012 (Hydrangea seemanii)

A climbing, self-clinging hydrangea. Like H. petiolaris, it takes a long time to get established and start climbing. The unopened flower buds are very fat (like a paeony)

I've had this one for a few years but no flowers as yet, which aspect is yours planted?

It's on the north side of a telegraph pole! I think I'd given up on it ever starting to climb before it did. Now I make sure it doesn't go more than six feet (don't want to fall out with BT)

I think this is one we planted this year, another one with a long wait!! worth it though.

Great to finally see one in flower! I have two Seemanii on a West facing wall. This is their fourth year and they've grown significantly this summer. I was going to give up on them due to Vine Weevil damage, but after seeing yours in flower I think I'll hang on. Thanks from a Crowthorne gardener!
