bird in trough

not sure what species this is, but it seems to like staying close to the ground - had to take this from a distance, so had to crop it a lot, ot brilliant pic but hope it shows enough

I looks like a blackbird Fran , apparently they are finding it difficult to find worms in this hot weather the worms go deeper in the soil where it's cooler :o)

I did a blog with more pics, Amy, and someone there said it was a female blackbird. No worms in those troughs, sadly. I didn't know what it was or what it was looking for, though it was delving for something, as it had dirt on its beak in some pictures - I sprinkled some seeds in hope, but not sure I'll go and buy any worms!

They love dried mealworms, Fran, and these can be bought quite easily. Look out for bargain packs as they can be quite expensive sometimes. Other birds enjoy them too :)

Oh, thanks, Gee! I'll check that out.

Umm, would squirrels be attracted by them too?? Sadly I have to work on no-squirrel before I can start on yes-bird

My squirrels don't touch them, Fran, so you should be OK :)
