Many of my plants look exactly like that. Lorilyn.

There is a large hosta just to the left of that mallow, Klahanie...and it wasn't even sniffed. I expected them to take out my hostas..but they seem to like the hollyhock leaves and the mallow. I'm not complaining, really. I love the deer...and they come in the early morning to the meadow and eat the new growth of the alfalfa, which I cut when it got tall and bloomed in June. The new growth is succulent and sweet and I won't have to cut it as the deer are enjoying it.

Seems like the taste buds of deer are different in every region. But my deer is not very selective. :-) They are beautiful animals and like them too.

mm the French deer never went for my hollyhocks, now newly planted baby trees, I am sure word went around when we planted our wild hedge, about 1000 whips of locally occurring trees, but I always reckon that the damage they suffered made them stronger in the end as we lost very few n had a cracking hedge when we left.
