Amaryllis on living room table 28-03-2014 004 (Amaryllis)

Amaryllis on our living room table - all these plants were grown from my own seeds! It takes them 4 years to flower from seed & I've had these flower every year for the past 4 years!

Thank you, Amy! I don't think of it as being patient as I knew from sowing them it would take between 4 & 5 years for them to flower! It was just a case of keeping them growing & moving them up a pot size each year, from 2&1/4" pots to 5" to the final 6" size.

Just last year I sowed some more seeds this time from a hybridization attempt with some pollen a lady from America sent me out of the blue! One of the plants produced viable seed which I sowed & now I call them Anglo-American Hybrids.

These bulblets have now been planted up in their 2nd stage pots, i.e. 5", next year they will need 6" pots. The following year I expect them to flower for the first time! THAT WILL BE EXCITING!!! :-))

It certainly will be exciting , you might not call it patience but I do ,your commitment to the programme is amazing , we shall look forward to seeing the new blooms next year ;o))

I will post photos as soon as they begin to open! :-))

I've got lots more to come yet this year! Most days I have another 1 or 2 to bring into the living room from the bedrooms or the kitchen! Just today I brought one in from one of our bedroom windowsills!

As I've no longer got room on the windowsills as they finish flowering I move them out onto the balcony, up against the windows where they will get a little protection from the sun & wind till I can take them down to the allotment in the middle of May.
