Can you grow it outside during the winter? I thought it was pretty tropical being native to south Florida.

Indoors, which is why it is being held back (lack of water to grow properly, cool room etc). As you know, they grow rather quickly.

Yes, it can grow very quickly when grown in the ground.

I've been holding my D.erecta back due to lack of space, but it's now had a prune and gone into the greenhouse.
