Great Spotted Woodpecker (Male)

This photo is of the male. The male and female were on the feeder all day, yesterday, we assume thay are feeding youngsters.
The male even took small pieces of nut and wedged them into the crevices in the trunk of a nearby pear tree, presumably, to bring the younster(s) there, when they start flying.

Hi Bloomer, we certainly appreciate that we are very lucky. I was having breakfast in the kitchen this morning and through the window, I could see the male on the peanuts. When he had gone, the female came on the fat coconut and then headed off. It would be a real treat to get a family photo, fingers crossed. <] : ~ ))))

Hi Bloomer, magpies are a pest. Oops Wendy has just banged on the window ... Disaster two squirrels eating the figs off her potted fig tree, on the patio.

Hi Carole, we are lucky, I could sit there all day watching them. I will try and get the family photo and post that as well.

Hi Bornagain ..... It's my clowns hat, I wear it when I'm feeling happy.

Your welcome Jane. The male has the red patch on the back of the head/neck. The female just has black and white feathers in that area. Both male and female have deep orange/crimson under tail feathers. The newly hatched young, have a red cap initially, until developing into an adult. Good luck getting a photo... You should get something great with your camera. It does take a nice photo. <]:-))

Janey, we are lucky seeing two woodpeckers every day at the moment, but still no sign of youngsters yet. I have actually sent this photo in to Granada Reports. They sometimes show viewers photos as a backdrop to the weather forecast in the NW region. So I will wait in hope.
