POND

POND

Beautiful hosta just ready to burst into flower (forgotten its name at the moment), unfortunately the slugs and snails agree.

beautiful capture of planting around your pond, so very lovely, the hosta is fabulous and as you say unfortunate about slugs/snails, will the hosta survive?

Yes it'll survive Mary. When I planted it, I cunningly gave it a 'collar' i.e. a bottomless plantpot with a ring of copper round it. This worked very well until the hosta became large and sent up shoots outside the confines of the pot. I could put down some bio pellets, but not keen on using stuff unless absolutely necessary ... and it very rarely is:-)

That is so pretty,Ba,and a lovely calming feel to it.your Hosta is lovely against the Astilbe..I assume it is Astilbe..what are the grasses around your pond? It all looks so natural.:o)

Sandra, the grass with its feet in the pond, you can see it just in front of the spirea, is acorus Calamus Variegatus ...ok known as variegated sweet flag and it's evergreen. The gorgeous golden one on the left is Bowles Golden sedge, Carex elata 'Aurea' unfortunately not evergreen, but a beauty and the other 'grass' which you can't see lol, but worth a mention is acorus Ogon. This will grow anywhere not dry, is low growing, a lovely variegated gold and evergreen. I should make more use of it I suppose, in pots or something. It does spread, but not hard to dig up:-)
