Last of my lovely scented Rose 'Chartreuse de Parme'

Last of my lovely scented Rose 'Chartreuse de Parme'

I managed to get the roses pruned a bit this week and brought these in so I can enjoy that last whiff of the delicious perfume of summer. Myrtle foliage to set them off.

Hi Karen, I dug all my roses out a couple of months ago, they were in the oval bed, but the hedge down the side, and all the trees outside my garden, had got rather high, and were casting too much shadow onto the bed, and I wasn't happy with their performance, so they had to come out, no room for non performers :-), Derek.

No Derek. I agree, and an unhappy Rose is not a plant anyone wants. I am so excited to have a south facing open spot where they can really thrive. My last garden was North-west facing, so even in the summer it was shady all morning. Even in a good spot, roses are a challenge!

Hi Karen, the garden runs east to west, so the length is south facing, it was fine when we just had fields the other side of the fence, which was only there to keep the cattle out, then they built houses all round, and a lot of self seeded ash appeared, so now there's a lot of shade down the side, Derek.

Ash does self seed readily. Our hedge has quite a few established ash I. It. We cut them hard back this year, but they are a pain as they grow so fast! I'm not sure what to do. Might have to cut them hard to the ground and put stump killer on them, then replace with some more sloes or hawthorn.

Thans Micky! I was thinking of you when I picked them. Roses always make me think of you. Did you see that Rose Garden on Christine Walkden's prog today? Wow! Heaven.

It was minus 23 degrees C. this morning and we lost our snow to a mini-thaw last week. Not going to be good for my roses. I have only one climber/runner...not sure what she is...but I love the sweet perfume, and have a few of the tiny Kordanas that managed to survive the last terrible winter and snacking deer. Have decided that they live or die on Mother Nature's plan, not mine!
Charteuse de Parme is a gorgeous creature to treasure and pamper. awww....scentimental! ( a little pun that might make a great name for a special rose! )
