Brodiaea 'Queen Fabiola'

Brodiaea 'Queen Fabiola'

These were planted about 4 years ago, they have tall, slender foliage which I have mistaken in the past for Grape Hyacinths. I pulled up a lot (in error) so am very pleased to see some have survived!

I had these in my last garden Shirley, and like you, i totally forgot they were there and started digging them out as weeds! I was amazed when they flowered.

Thank goodness it's just me that loses the plot then Karen! I detest Grape Hyacinths and pull them up asap, should have been more cautious. :o)

So glad you all do silly things like that. I grew sweet peas along the fence once and then pulled them all up as weeds, I had about 8 in my hand before I realised!

I bet you didn't make that mistake twice Gee .....

Oh, it that what these are called! I had them in my old garden but always thought they were Triteallea (or something like that spelling)

You're quite right Paul ... they were labelled as Triteleia/Brodiaea when I got them ... surely they are one or the other?!

I saw some at Merriments gardens today but they weren't labelled.

That's a bit odd .....

a lovely garden and a fantastic nursery (I found/bought a few of the plants on my list and one that wasn't!!
but, very few of the plants in the garden were labelled which is a little frustrating. i asked the two lady gardeners the name of one grass but didnt want to keep pestering them.

Well done for getting some more plants. It's a bit lax of them not to label their plants though, don't you think?

7 Jul, 2015

Yes, I think so. I like to know the names of plants, not least, for when I blog (as I just have) with pictures as other GOYers may like to know the names, too!
I have planted some of my purchases. Getting on with one side of the garden now. Although, still lots of smaller grasses needed to infill and to plant along the edges. And, I also have to start digging the bed on the other side soon as some of my plants, particulalry 3 Calamagrostis , are really suffering in their small garden centre pots!!

Slow but steady is the way forward Paul! We had some rain at last this morning, hopefully you did too to soften the ground up a bit :o)

8 Jul, 2015

No rain her Shirley until this evening and it lasted all of 10 minutes and the wind was blowing strongly so it would mostly have dried up from the surface before doing any good.

8 Jul, 2015

No rain forecast for the coming days either .....

9 Jul, 2015

No....and getting very hot again tomorrow. Oh well, I'll have to do my red Indiana rain dance..........again!
Now, where did I put that feather head dress?

9 Jul, 2015

Now that would be a sight for sore eyes Paul! :o)
