It's odd how these Escallonia do not like the winter weather...yet thankfully they do recover, although it does take a few weeks.

Bought Ellen Gold a few years ago,but sadly it became victim of a disease.Apparently was quite common at the time......was advised on here to completely remove it......the clematis looks so good against yours,DD.
