Giant Thevetia (Thevetia thevetiodes) and I at Quail Botanical Gardens

Giant Thevetia (Thevetia thevetiodes) and I at Quail Botanical Gardens (Thevetia thevetiodes)

I went to Quail B.G. (San Diego Botanical Gardens) in Encinitas today. It was hot and humid. I was standing in front of the Giant Thevetia. Photo taken Sept. 5, 2017.

Looks like the drought is over! Green is better than brown. Nice hat!

Well, the drought is officially over; however, it's been super dry...some areas are still a level 2 drought conditions. I hope we receive a lot of rain this year so the drought can really be over here in San Diego.

Yes, I use this hat all the time. With the horrible heat that we've had I need it.

Yes, we need a lot more rain. There's so many large, old trees dying in Balboa Park. It's so, so sad! :>((

Luckily, Thevetia is very drought tolerant. I have seen some very old ones around die from the extreme six year drought, though.

Yes, the Giant Thevetia is such a beautiful tropical flowering tree. It's native to southern Mexico.

Stan,

This is actually a smaller tree. I've seen some much larger Thevetia thevetoides around San Diego. Thevetia peruviana is much more common, though. It's planted a lot along the freeways here.

Those are not Chilean wine palms. One is a cycad and the other is a Sabal species. :>))
