Pied Wagtail

These little birds seem to be around the South of England this time of year only.

Love these cute birds...

That's odd, they're here all year round. Maybe they like it cold and wet !

Cute is definitely the word for them!

Hywel, perhaps that's why they're here, it has been cold and wet for days now!

I was being sarcastic Shirley lol We get dry warm spells here more often than people think, believe it or not :)

Sorry Hywel, I didn't realise that! :o))

But it is strange how some species are more prevalent in some areas than in others. Where I lived previously there were lots of Goldfinches, Bulfinches, and Jays. I moved 7 miles up the road and haven't seen any of those in 12 years.

That blank comment was a duplicate :)

No rhyme or reason to it, Hywel. I have never seen a Bullfinch or Jay in any of my gardens, but do have Goldfinches coming to the Sunflower hearts I put in a feeder for them.

Another pair of black and white birds today, Magpies, which are huge compared to the Wagtails!

It is a dry and sunny day, quite breezy, but at last I have been 'grubbing around' in the garden, hooray!

Lovely little bird,Shirley..we only see one occasionally, usually on the road outside our house, pecking at the tarmac, for some reason ! we do get lots of plant material which lands on it,from the adjoining border,so I guess there are insects etc on the wet dying foliage..Our Goldfinches are a permanent feature..there are 6 in this years family, loving the Sunflower Hearts, along side the Bluetits..Never seen a Jay here, but a Bullfinch only twice in 16 years. we have a regular a pair of collared doves, and Blackbirds,a lone Robin ,and Sparrows.Quite enough to be going on with, and feeding !:o)

It's been very wild here, with heavy showers,on and off all day,and it is turning much colder this afternoon,as forecast ! ( keep snug :o) x

Sandra, I read that they feed on insects, so putting out bread crumbs for them yesterday was pointless then!

Oh, lucky you having Collared Doves, haven't seen one in our garden for many years, shame as they always seem such placid birds.

I hope the wild weather calms down oop North!

The breeze has turned into a gale once again (5pm) ...

Never mind,Shirley.at least some little bird would be grateful :o) and as for the two Collared Doves, they perch on top of the shepherds hook type feeder, snuggled together, but in the summer, they finally got the hang of reaching the sunflower hearts, after many attempts..but sadly,OH had to manipulate it so they couldn't..we both felt cruel,as it must be awful to see food, and not be able to get to it..but the others never got a look in ! I do make sure there is something else for them on the ground ...just depends who gets there first..sometimes it's our local cat ! :o)
A bit calmer here,but turned even colder..:o(

Sandra, you are so kind to the wildlife in your garden!

I hope the temps have risen for you today!

Lol.I know you are too,Shirley :o).The temps a bit higher, but not by much, but at least it was calm enough to go for a walk ,and call in for a nice coffee enroute :o) x

We have a pair of Pied Wagtails and a Yellow Wagtail that visit our garden when the weather turns cold. They like mealworms.

Sounds good to me Sandra ...

That's lovely for you Lindak ...
