Im going to grow melons in my greenhouse next year.

I think I struck it lucky with the heat this summer. Last year I planted squash and pie pumpkin and they didn't amount to much. A combination of planting a bit too late and a shorter cooler summer.

final update: I had the first melon and it was delicious..if a little moist, the other two were wonderful! well worth trying again next season. I'm going to increase the amount of "in ground" growing area in the greenhouse. melons, cucumbers and figs!

That's great! There's nothing better than homegrown produce.

Thanks Andy. We can compare notes, Karen! I've been reading up on them and the most interesting fact so far is that they depend entirely on what moisture they get and when they get it! Too much and they're mushy and bland, not enough, and they're woody. Being timely with the water and keeping the hills moist but not wet, helps them grow sweet and firm. can't wait for next season, I hope it's nice and warm like the past one, but with a wee bit more rain. I've saved some seed.
