Bugbane (Actaea simplex)

Lovely scented flower-spikes above near black finely cut foliage. A great plant for a dark planting scheme, or up against a pale wall or fence.

Lovely is it not. I sowed seeds but have not had time to pot them on. I think it might be too late now.

I am very fond of it. It doesn't grow much bigger, which is a pity, but anything that flowers in the autumn is a joy for me.

Hi Karen, I bought 1 of these in 2015, but thought I had lost it due to the thuggish Euphorbia that I dug out a few weeks ago, but it's still there, just never flowered, maybe next year, when it hasn't got as much competition, fingers crossed, Derek.

The foliage is the real star though isn’t it. The flowers are lovely, but short-lived.
