Honey Fungus on an old cherry stump.

this hasn't produced toadstools for many years now so I was surprised to see this crop of fruiting bodies this year.

We also have it on some old tree stumps for the first time. Fascinates me!

Did you watch GW last night and the feature on Fungi? Love to see all this different types, even carnivorous ones!

Are these mushrooms edible?

10 Oct, 2018

from what I have read the answer is yes they are edible and the advice is not unless it has been identified by an expert. there are many that look similar and are deadly. in the past people have eaten them but there is evidence to suggest that many people are sensitive to chemicals in them and they become unwell with gastric issues.
shame as I have lots!

Yep, I have those in our land as well, was expecting to be edible. I believe I have to go to a short program about mushrooms of the region before try anything.
My grandma used to put a cooper coin with to boil, if it turns green (the coin) the mushrooms are not edible.

copper turns green in boiling water anyway so I wouldn't rely on it. :o)
don't forget many of our 'coppers' are not copper any more but an iron based metal.

That's a fair crop. It would be nice if they are edible.
