'Giuseppe Verdi'

'Giuseppe Verdi'

Found this gorgeous little dwarf kauffmania tulip at GC yesterday. Only one pot of it left. I must remember to buy some bulbs in the autumn as I really love this. Its on my wishlist with 'Peppermint' for next spring.

One of my favourite composers, lol :)

Me too Sheila....well, of Operas anyway. La Traviata is my favourite Opera I think. But one of the first ones I went to see at the Coliseum was 'The Force of Destiny' which really made an impression...think I would have been about 14 or so. The Requiem is also incredible isn't it? Much prefer his Operas to Puccini's which are a bit sugary for me....except for Mme. Butterfly which I could never sing as I always cried so much! lol!

Interesting Karen - Traviata is my favourite too. But I do love Puccini’s Boheme. And Madame Butterfly which we once watched on a plane . . . I was sobbing so much that a stewardess asked my husband if I was alright!

We often play Verdi’s Requiem, and a highlight of our life was going to a Requiem rehearsal at the Barbican.

(Beethoven is my second favourite composer:))

hmmm...Mahler and John Taverner, are my favourites I think...but it changes. I find I am far more drawn to modern stuff nowadays.i can just picture you sobbing on the plane! :)

Oh yes, Taverner; also Palestrina and Allegri who we were introduced to in a wonderful series of early music presented by Simon Russell Beale and sung by The Sixteen (who I went to see in St John's chapel in Cambridge).

Pretty little tulip........

Very pretty tulip. It's my turn to ask questions, how I proceed with the tulips. I have several bulbs and we are entering the winter, when they bloom here. The bulbs are in the freezer waiting to be planted. Do you remove the bulbs from the ground after the flowers have already wilted, or leave them on the ground for the next season?

By the way my favourite composer is Paganini and Bizet (Carmen) and Gershwin (Porgy and Bess)

All lovely composers Aleyna! :) Re the tulips it depends. If they are species tulips, even named varieties of species tulips, I leave them in the ground. If they are in pots, I plant them in the ground once the flowers are over. With hybrid tulips I do ‘t keep them, I find they tend to deteriorate very quickly and then stop flowering. So I chuck my hybrids and buy new every year, treat them as annuals. But so e people on here get more success than me by planting them in the ground and leaving them. I have acid soil...this might make a difference, I’m not sure.

Thank you Cottagekarer for your informations. The soil here is very acid as well. I'll add calcareous to balance the acidity.
