Crab apple tree - Red Sentinel

Crab apple tree - Red Sentinel (Malus x robusta 'Red Sentinel' (Crabapple))

Crab apples that no one eats. No birds, no squirrels. It was planted for wildlife. Lucky it is looks very decorative all winter long. I use it in Christmas decorations too. It is also beautiful when it blooms in spring. So not all is lost.

The only birds that eat our red-berried crab are visiting redwings if there is heavy snow. Nothing else is interested, so I know how frustrating it is. I have a red pyracantha that nothing likes, too, even though it was advertised as wildlife friendly! Awkward so-and-so's.

Anget, My red pyracanhta is popular with our American Robins and they will snack even on Nandina berries despite the fact that they are poisonous in large quantities. Of course they like my blueberries and grapes the most and will not share with me.

Janey, I do make jelly, but not every year, we do not eat so much of it.... but I gift it to everybody I know.

Are you going to make crab apple jelly? That's quite a harvest you have there.

Bathgate, not this year we still have supply from last year.
They make a good jelly.

Amy, this is a very productive tree and I wish someone would like these gorgeous apples. Raccoons will climb our regular apple trees to get their snack but not this one.
