What sort of deer is this Klahanie? Is it a Muntjac. Hope I've spelt that right.

One came into our garden when we were on Vancouver island, Klahanie, with her young one. So lovely to see in the wild!

We have lots of Blacktail deer around.
Vancouver island Blacktail deer breed usually during November and early December and births occur in June (usually). This fawn seemed younger than 8 months.
They do not have here a natural predators except cars and harsh winters which are less and less recently. Few hunters here have almost no impact on their population.
They lose about 25% of their body weight in winter as there is not much nutritional food for them to eat. This little one in my picture did not looked entirely healthy. We actually threw some apples and carrots at the site it visits but we also have lots of squirrels and rabbits around so who knows who ate it. We also thought that it lost it's mother because we always saw it alone.... but the other day we did see an adult female.
I am sure I will be whining on this site about them eating my plants all summer long.
A Blacktail deer are not herding animals. you can spot 2-3 animals which are usually the same family.
Thank you all for your comments.
