Osmanthus delavayi

A favourite shrub of mine. Evergreen and wonderfully scented at the moment by its small, white flowers.

I haven’t this osmanthus variety, Ange, but a couple of others. This is a nice one, the flowers are very pretty too.

I wouldn't be without this in a garden, Kate. Saw it in a garden years ago, in Devon, and the scent was overpowering on a still day. Sadly, we get too many windy ones here to always catch the scent from it.

It is lovely Anget.

I do have a small plant and have to have it protected (against deer) .

Thank you, Klahanie. I've only seen deer up here a few times, at night, on the bit of green in front of the house.

They usually come at dawn or dusk to feed Anget. Is your backyard fenced all around.? Deer here can jump 6foot fence with no problem at all. Especially when they can see through something that interest them.

Lovely shrub. Need to look into one of these.

It's lovely at all times of year, I think. The small shiny leaves make a good backdrop in the summer. A bit like overgrown sarcoccoca...
