Variegated shrubs

Variegated shrubs

The Miscanthus grass (Zebra grass) is trying to invade the sunhouse through the window! I really must remove it next Spring.

One of the grasses I like Shirley_tulip. Are you going to remove it all?

No, the original Zebra grass has been divided over many years but is becoming very hard for either myself or husband to do these days! Last time he used a saw . . . the one next to the sunhouse will have to be dug up and the other one reduced by half. Not going to be easy . . . :o(

I was thinking 'that will be one heck of a job to tackle'.
take care as you do it though.

Oh dear, that's a shame Shirley, but needs must,if it's getting out of hand.I'm glad mine can do their own thing,in my long border,or I would have been doing the same as you ! I did manage to split them ,when they were much younger, but we will just leave them now. Just be careful, and do a bit at a time,if you can .x

That is a pity, it’s all looking very lush too! However, if it’s becoming too invasive and tough, best to cut back or remove, Shirley. Don’t want it damaging your sunhouse! Take care when you’re both undertaking the task, as Eileen also mentioned.

Thanks everyone for commenting. I have a plan for this job, cut down the grasses in early Spring, soak the plants and the soil around them, then dig, dig and dig some more! My son and daughter are both unaware that I shall need their help with this job . . . :o))

It’s a great grass Shirley, but I hadn’t realised they could get out of hand. By chance, luckily mine’s happy in a pot!

Good timing,Shirley ! many hands make light work ,especially with a Miscanthus! :o)

...
Sheila, I have just had to get rid of one of mine in a large pot,as it didn't do well at all ,and was pot bound .We had to break the pot up to get it out, luckily, only a plastic one. It had only been in 2/3 years. I'm glad yours is doing well :o)x

Thanks Sandra … we’ll, so far so good. Mine must be only 2/3 years old as it was given to me by a friend for our new garden when we moved house. Fingers crossed … x
