Ooh Klahanie, what a beauty! I love it. Is it in shade or a sunny position? How old is it please?

None of my Japanese Maples like too much sun Janey. This pot is in shadier spot. It has a couple hours of sun but the spot is fairly bright. I have it for many years. Do not remember exactly but probably 15 years. It was the first Japanese maple I bought here. It is considered to be a larger specimen of Japanese Maples. It's leaves get beautiful deep red colour in autumn. I trim it slightly here and there and re-potted twice so far. I trimmed its roots as well at that time. I think it is due for this treatment again. I believe this cultivar would be happier in the ground Janey.

Thank you Klahanie for the information. I'm having a raised bed put in on the shady side of my garden and would love one or two acers.
I have ferns and hellebores to transplant, but need some height. I suppose I would have to buy well established trees, or another type that is faster growing. I can enjoy your photos..:))

New raised flower bed sounds exciting, Janey. Some of the smaller Japanese maples would look really nice there.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!!
The colour is just outstanding!
One of my favourite plants in our garden, I have to admit...

If I would be allowed to have just one this would be it Kate.
You have some beautiful acers as well.

It’s certainly a special one Klahanie. When our garden was landscaped three years ago, Sam (the landscaper) offered to get me an Acer Osakazuki saying that he put one into every garden he built. Ours was happy for a while, but he forgot to say ‘never let it dry out’ and now ours looks very sad.

Janey - well worth a try - they are not too fussy so long as they are sheltered (but you knew that!) 🙂.

Oh Sheila, that is a shame. It is true, they do not like dry soil. But, they do not like it too wet either. Ask me how I know. You can trim it slightly and hopefully (with rains and LUCK) it will recuperate.

Oooh thanks Klahanie … it has to be worth a try 🙂.
