Just starting to flower. Inherited plant.
Common name on this continent is "Rose of Sharon ".

Was just wondering whether to buy a Rose of Sharon plant for a shady, dry area here...this would be the common Hypericum with the yellow flower related to your beautiful shrub,Klahanie.

Yes you call Hypericum a Rose of Sharon in England. We call Hypericum "Saint John's wort" here. Complicated.... that is why using the botanical names is most useful in descriptions.
They are not related.
I also have the Hypericum Hidcote you are thinking of getting Julia. Mine is doing well here in a shady and dry area,

That's helpful Klahanie.thank you..there are very few shrubs which grow in those conditions.

Hypericum is also called Saint John’s wort here … quite a spreader, but as you say, useful in shade.

I believe that Julia is talking about the "shrub form" (?) Hypericum, Sheila.
I think Siris also grows it.

Yes, the ground covering Saint John’s wort is aggressive spreader ....I have it in many places also. Once established, it can be difficult to remove .
