She is now on her own. Have not seen her mother for several days. She is a permanent fixture here. Not shy at all. I think OH has a nice conversations with her so she thinks we are friends.

She is so sweet. I bet she enjoys the human company.

She was born earlier this year Julia and until few days ago she was accompanied by her mother. Now it seems she is on her own.
Linda, she listens carefully when we talk to her and I think she sense if she is welcomed or not. We leave her browsing around just discourage her to be in the area close to the house. She ignores me when I walk out until I approach her very close.

She is all grown up little "lady" and will be trouble next summer...I am sure. Thank you very much for commenting, Paul, Sheila and Siris.

I wonder if it's time her mother would leave her Klahanie? I'd be such a sucker for a young deer who wanted company. There certainly wouldn't be any garden left!

Janey, I think it is probably time they start on their own.
It is very hard to be mad at them when you precious plant is gone. I am limited to plants which they do not favour but even then they might not touch it one year and consume it next. It is a challenge for a gardener. The only way to protect plants is to fence them and many people build little compounds to grow (mainly vegetables) but on our hillside land its not practical and I like open spaces. Deer can jump over 6' fence like nothing so fences have to be at least 7-8 feet high. Over the years I adjusted my plantings and am learning how to live in peace with them. There is no other choice for me. People in more urban areas have fences around their properties so no problem there.

I can quite understand Klahanie. After a few precious plants had been consumed, I wouldn't find her so attractive either. It must be quite difficult loving your garden and living on the edge of woodland and also enjoying the open spaces too. Well you have a fabulous garden from the photos you've shown us, you obviously are doing everything right. And you have your Hummingbirds, so looking forward to seeing more photos this winter..
