OH bought as a small plant in department store few years ago and it is surviving nicely. I was never fan of these plants but I am starting to appreciate their very long blooming period. Aging but still attractive.

I find them little overwhelming Julia but they bloom all summer long. I actually think one would look nice in the corner of your garden but they are thirsty plants and do best in the morning sun and afternoon shade.
I cannot grow them in the open as deer would eat them.We got several on the deck in pots and this one close to the house .

I have an empty spot at the back of a border underneath the Trachycarpus tree but perhaps it would be too dry there...it would have morning sun.

I'll put my head above the parapet: I love hydrangeas - a late appreciation! Don't much like the mopheads but the lacecaps are better and the paniculatas the best of all. They all fade to subtle autumn colours which I like very much.

A good filler in shrub to have. The flowers do last a long time. What is the ornament I can just see at the bottom of your photo Klahanie?

I agree Ange! And now some have the most brilliant autumn leaf colour.
Yours is very delicate Klahanie, nice to dry the flower heads to use inside..

The ornament is a heron or some water bird with a long neck
.
They do look good dried in arrangements but I do not do that. I just let them on the plant for a long time.
Thanks all for your comments.

Me too, they protect the buds for next year...And here we have had our first heavy frost..

I’m with Ange2 on this. Some mop heads are nice…mine are Wedding Gown and Red Angel, but the best Hydrangeas for me are H. Paniculata and H. Arborescens…and they tolerate sun a lot better as well.

I do love a hydrangea, although OH not so keen. I like their flowering longevity too. They have that touch of New England charm I think.

Thank you Kate. They deserve a spot in any garden. (My present opinion)

I've never been persuaded to buy one either Klahanie but seeing them in other people's gardens does entice me.
