Sunflower seeds

Sunflower seeds

Buying 40 lb of these seeds. Birds really like them (unfortunately squirrels do too)

I try not to work out how much feeding the birds costs us over the year. It's certainly getting much more expensive than it used to be.

Just noticed the French for sunflowers - how appropriate!
Those birds will be queuing up!

Ange, you are right but here everything is getting much more expensive than it used to be. We buy large bags of regular seed mixture as well, also expensive. There are things we just do not mind to spend our money on and things we are complaining about the cost excessively. (like taxes)

Stera, everything is written here in English and French by law so we can learn French just from reading the products we are buying :-)
We love our birds .

Lovely that you are keeping the birds alive Klahanie, we do the same, buy in large quantities, but as you say it's expensive, then we haven't any pets at home, so we treat the wildlife as our pets.

Your wildlife is very lucky Linda to have you around.

All the birds here love the sunflowers too!

Do you grow them Rose? I tried to plant them but pesky squirrels get them first.

No Klahanie, I buy them from a farm shop near here.

We also buy large sacks of sunflower seeds from a farm outlet much cheaper than stores but still expensive ...

Our garden birds are given sunflower hearts ... the price varies a great deal from place to place. It really is a pleasure to watch the birds feeding ... :o)

Thanks for your comments. Buying in bulk make sense (in this case).

We stopped feeding the birds sunflower hearts last summer..we felt awful but it was attracting so many wood pigeons! The feeder was above the steps to nowhere close to the back patio. It was so messy. Poo everywhere! Plus they were trodding all over the plants and causing broken stems etc.
We still have our peanut feeder at the pergola. Lots of tits, sparrows and the robins. We see the ground feeders, blackies, dunnocks and others mooching around.
