At the limit

At the limit

I have 3 of these large plants (Euforbia trigona). Just trimmed 2 and this is the last one which is up to the ceiling with no more room to go. My problem is that I pot tops and now have dozen of 3-4' plants and another dozen just sitting in a bowl full of water....a real cactus forest. It is easily propagated and grows fast,
I like their architectural statue.

Klahanie,

I see you have the same problem as me. Lol

My E. trigona has reached the ceiling and is bending. I need to find a place outside to put it into the ground. They typically grow to 12 to 14 ft here in the ground.

That's wonderful !
I had a tall one once but it suddenly died :( I've got two new ones now, a rubra one and a green one but they are small at the moment.

Oh goodness, it's hard to throw out cutting material, isn't it?

Goodness, gracious, can you put the pot on the floor?

That's one tall plant! 😂 Like you I hate to throw away anything that might possibly grow & at times I have to steel myself to get rid of pruned material! 😂

Thank you all for commenting.

Too happy Julia, All of them are against these huge windows facing south and they seems to thrive there.
-----------------
Delonix, I wish I could stick them outside. They are quite prickly and heavy so I am not sure if I could even handle it
----------------
Hywel, I think the E. trigona rubra is very pretty. I would not mind to have one of those.
------------------
Ange, I will plant most of it and see if I can find someone who will want some.
-------------------
Siris, it is on the floor in a big lovely pot. This is a picture of the top part only......to show more clearly how close it is to the ceiling.

Balcony, bless.

nice !!!

Unfortunately my rubra has turned to mush as the temperature in my greenhouse must have gone too low for it :(
The green one is fine but it's further in so more sheltered I suppose.
I've timed a heater to come on for a while tonight. This is the worst winter we've had for many years. It's usually mild and wet.

Your very own trifid, Klahanie! I wonder which way it will choose, left or right across your ceiling, or maybe both!

Amy, they rhtive on neglect. only water them here and there. I never fed them anything "nutritious".

Thank you Paul

Hywel we have a heater in the greenhouse that when the temperature gets to 2 deg C it aromatically kicks in .
I used to have plants that were OK outside for several years (like hebe) and then boom!... bigger freeze came and that was the end of them. As you, we use to have lots of rain but not so much snow and freeze. I cannot verify (from my experience) that the climate is rapidly warming here but it seems definitely more volatile and extreme one way or the other (lately. )
Sorry about your Rubra.
----------------------------
Janey, I will not let it go left or right :-) I will chop it down little bit this weekend. Especially the longest arm of this expanding "trifid". I bought few new pots for it.

I only bought the rubra last year Klahanie, to replace a very tall one that died. (I bought a green one as well, to go with it) Now it seems I'll have to look for another.
I remember which garden centre I bought it from so I'll be going there soon.

Good idea to have a thermostat. I'm thinking of getting one but since the greenhouse was only built a few months ago I haven't got around to it. Maybe I should have thought sooner, but this cold weather is so rare here it didn't occur to me.

It's a pity you can't sculptor it in two halves circling outwards and round with some wire. It certainly looks very healthy.

I am glad that you remember which garden center you bought it from Hywel. I think it is worth replacing it.
--------------------------

Linda, the problem is the height, it is up to the ceiling and it has to be cut down. The trick is to know where to cut because it will sprout several "arms" at that spot. Unfortunately, cutting it just little bit does not work.
