Ficus aspera - Clown Fig

Ficus aspera - Clown Fig (Ficus aspera)

This Ficus is pretty common with collectors...it generally is pretty difficult to use in the landscape due to the highly-variegated leaves.
It has highly-ornamental red fig also.

I tried to look up why the name Clown fig.
All I could find was a joke :
Do Clown Figs taste funny? :o)
Do we know why it is called Clown Fig, please?

It is called clown fig because of the variegation of the leaves and the red figs which resemble a clown's nose. I do see it used in the landscape here occasionally, it is overwhelming in some landscapes. It ha to be strategically placed though. I really like variegated plants and trees they can be showy in an all green landscape if well-placed.

Thanks.
I do like to know how the unusual names originate.
Sometimes internet gives me the answer, but not always!
