This is a very rare shrub native to Peru to Ecuador. It is very rare in cultivation...usually only seen in botanical gardens or specialty nurseries. Photo taken April 17, 2009 at the San Diego Zoo.

Yes, it is...and very rare here. It's not even in full bloom yet.
I'm hopping it's availability will increase someday.
